5.28.23 | by Chris | WATER MILL, NY - At approximately 2:56pm, Southampton Town Police and Southampton Fire Department responded to a call of a structure fire at 38 Farmstand Lane. Upon arrival, a working fire was declared and mutual aid from multiple surrounding towns responded (North Sea, Hampton Bays, East Quogue, East Hampton, Briddgehampton, Sag Harbor). Firefighting efforts were initially hampered by lack of water and low water pressure. The owner of the house was in the residence when the fire began, but was able to evacuate without injury. The house is a total loss. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by the Southampton Town Fire Marshals.
$2 Million Hamptons Waterfront House Destroyed by Fire
5.23.23 | by Chris | EAST QUOGUE, NY - Just after 2pm, Southampton Town Police and East Quogue Fire Department responded to a report of a residential structure fire at 1 West End Avenue. The two-story, bay front house was fully involved, with fire and heavy smoke blowing out the second floor windows. The fire apparently began in the basement and extended quickly throughout the house. The homeowner was at the residence at the time of the fire, but escaped unharmed. Mutual Aid was provided by the following departments: Quogue, Hampton Bays, Southampton, and Riverhead. Southampton Town Fire Marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
Hampton Bays Medivac of Seriously Ill Patient

Hampton Bays FD closed access to the park for the duration of the incident.
S'Hampton: Double MVA with Injuries
4.15.23 | Chris | SOUTHAMPTON, NY -- At approximately 5:15 pm, Southampton Town PD and Southampton FD and EMS responded to a call of a two-car accident in the area of 274 CR 39 E. A white Mercedes SUV collided with a blue Chevy Silverado, sending the female driver of the Mercedes to an area hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Both vehicles were towed, and the cause of the accident is under investigation. Traffic in both directions of CR 39 was disrupted for about 45 minutes.
S'Hampton Village: Blaze Threatens Union Burger Bar and Cocktail Lounge
4.9.23 | by Chris | SOUTHAMPTON VILLAGE, NY - Just before 11:00pm, Southampton Village FD and Village police responded to a 911 call of a fully involved structure at 40 Bowden Square and North Sea Road. Upon arrival, responding units found a fully involved building, with a small, attached structure. The blaze was just feet from the Union Burger Bar and Cocktail Lounge, a trendy Hamptons restaurant. The restaurant suffered only minor damage to its siding. It took scores of firefighters from SHFD and mutual aid companies from North Sea and Hampton Bays over an hour to knock down the fire. The cause of the fire is being investigated by the Southampton Town Fire Marshall. No injuries to firefighters or civilians were reported.

Fatal Plane Crash in North Lindenhurst
3.5.23 | by Chris | NORTH LINDENHURST, NY - At approximately 3:00pm, a single engine plane crashed on final approach to Republic Airport in East Farmingdale, bursting into flames on impact. The pilot and two passengers (a mother and daughter) were onboard the Piper PA 28. A female adult passenger was killed in the crash and pronounced deceased at the scene. An adult male and a female child were transported by medivac to Stony Brook University Medical Center in critical condition; both suffered severe burns. A Good Samaritan helped remove the two surviving passengers from the wreckage. The adult male was piloting the aircraft, which crashed at the end of Fifth St, off of Wellwood Avenue, just yards from a set of LIRR tracks. The pilot issued a Mayday call just prior to the crash. A crash investigation by the Suffolk County Police and the FAA is ongoing. The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will conduct the accident investigation.
*DELAYED* High Winds Cause Several Large Power Outage on East End
Rt. 51 sparked a small brushfire, and cut power to an area from west of the Riverhead traffic circle to an area just north of Suffolk Country Community College.
Another large outage at roughly the same time plunged the village of Tuckahoe in the Town of Southampton, where 555 customers were without electricity for three hours.
Man Injured in Car vs. Tree MVA
2.19.23 | HAMPTON BAYS, NY -- At approximately 5:30pm, SHPD, HBFD, and HBEMS responded to a single MVA of a BMW SUV into a tree, at East Montauk Highway near the Hamptons Nursery. The driver of the BMW was transported to an area hospital in unknown condition.

Fire fighters quickly extinguished a fire in the kitchen of the residence, with minor extension to the attic. The house was unoccupied. Fire Marshalls are investigating the cause of the fire. Hampton Bays FD provided mutual aid support.
Fire Destroys Riverhead Home, 2 Elderly Men Rescued
12.30.22 | by Chris | RIVERHEAD, NY - Just before 5:00pm, Riverhead PD and FD responded to a report of a working residential structure fire at 16 Doris Ave. Upon arrival, PD found the residence heavily involved, and learned there was a possible victim trapped inside. A police officer removed a victim through the front door and onto the front lawn. That victim informed officers there was a second victim. Upon FD's arrival, firefighters rescued the second victim through a window at the rear of the house. EMS treated both victims, and transported them to Peconic Bay Medical Center in unknown condition. The house is a total loss. The cause of the blaze is under investigation by Riverhead Fire Marshalls.

Upon arrival, police and BHFD found a fully involved two-story private residence, with fire blowing out all windows and the front door. Mutual Aid was provided by Southampton FD and Sag Harbor FD. A female occupant of the house was transported to an area hospital for smoke inhalation. The Southampton Fire Marshall is conducting an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
22 Year-Old-Man Shot in Broad Daylight on Manhattan Street
12.06.22 | Chris | MANHATTAN, NY-- At approximately 3:30pm, NYPD responded to reports of a male shot on Adam Clayton Powell BLVD and West 114 ST. Upon arrival, police found a 22 year-old-male with a gunshot wound to the lower abdomen. The victim was transported by FDNY EMS to a local hospital in stable condition. A male and female wearing all black and ski masks fired at the victim at close range and fled the scene of foot.

Upon arrival, FD found a silver Audi A4 convertible with flames under the hood. The fire was quickly knocked down. There were no injuries. The Audi was a total loss.
Manhattan: Woman Struck by Work Van

Traffic Stop Leads to DWI Arrest & Passenger Given Narcan
9.24.22 | Chris | HAMPTON BAYS, NY -- At approximately 2:15am, Southampton Town Police initiated a traffic stop on a blue Honda sedan at Ponguogue Avenue and East Montauk Highway, for unknown reasons. In the course of the traffic stop, it was determined that the driver may have operated his vehicle under the influence of alcohol. The driver was placed in custody and transported to SHPD Headquarters. The passenger was unconscious and unresponsive. EMS administered Narcan, after which the passenger was awake and alert. The male patient was taken to a local hospital in unknown condition.

9.5.22 | Chris | HAMPTON BAYS, NY -- At approximately 2:15pm, Southampton Town Police and Hampton Bays FD responded to a call of a double motorcycle accident on North Road, just off West Montauk Highway. A motorcycle traveling north on North Road rear ended another motorcycle traveling in the same direction. The operator of the second motorcycle sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital.
Flanders: Single Vehicle Rollover on Flanders Road
9.05.22 | Chris | FLANDERS, NY -- At approximately 5:00pm, 911 operators received multiple calls of an MVA on Flanders Road in the hamlet of Flanders. Southampton Town Police, Flanders EMS, and Hampton Bays FD arrived on scene to find a silver Toyota minivan on its roof. The driver self-extricated from the vehicle and suffered no injuries. TheToyota was traveling northbound on Flanders Road, when, just North of Red Creek Road, the vehicle left the roadway, struck a tree, and rolled over.
H'Bays: Drunken Brawl Sends 3 to Hospital and 3 Arrests
8.27.22 | by Chris | HAMPTON BAYS, NY - At approximately 11:47 PM, Southampton Town Police
responded to a residence at 17 Canal Street.
Officers found a male victim, Franky Rojas-Guevara, 21, of Flanders, lying unconscious in the
roadway after he was struck by a vehicle. Officers determined that Rojas-Guevara, along with
Luis Rojano-Melendez, 25, of Flanders, and a male juvenile, 15, had been involved in a physical
altercation at the residence.
The altercation moved outside to the roadway when the three began to damage the car while the
driver was attempting to leave, striking Rojas-Guevara. Rojas-Guevara was transported to an
area hospital for treatment for minor injuries and released.
The individuals were arrested and transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters and
charged with the following:
Franky Rojas-Guevara, 21, of Flanders, was charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree.
Luis Rojano-Melendez, 25, of Flanders, was charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and
Assault 2nd Degree.
Juvenile, 15, was charged with (2) counts of Assault 2nd Degree and Criminal Mischief 3rd
Degree. He was released to his parents on a juvenile field appearance ticket.

8.26.22 | HAMPTON BAYS, NY -- Southampton Town Police and NYS Police responded to what started as a noise complaint at a residence at 13 Emily Ct, and ended with the dispersal of 100+ teens who were partying at the residence. Shortly after this incident, police responded to another such party at a house on Jones Road in East Quogue.
The teens appeared not to be drinking and no arrests were made.
NYPD Aviation Unit Helps Nab Homicide Suspect
An NYPDS Aviation unit assisted with the apprehension of a homicide suspect. The incident occurred on Thursday, August 4 at approximately 1130 PM, within the confines of the 62 precinct. Aviation utilized their infrared camera system to direct ESU to the suspect hiding on the rocky shoreline. The investigation is ongoing.
H'Bays: Drunk Driver Forces Another Driver Into Guardrails
8.6.22 | HAMPTON BAYS, NY -- At approximately 4:10 am, Southampton Town Police and Hampton Bays Fire Department responded to a report of a two-car crash in the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway. A black Hyundai sedan traveling eastbound on Sunrise Highway approached and forced a black Toyota Camry into guardrails on the median. The Camry struck the guardrails; the Hyundai sustained major front-end damage from impacting the Camry. In the course of its investigation, police determined the driver of the Hyundai was intoxicated, and placed him under arrest.

July 10, 2022 | HAMPTON BAYS, LI -- Just after midnight, Hampton Bays FD and Southampton Town PD responded to a call of a car fire in the area of 187 Wakeman Road. Upon arrival, FD found a black 1966 Mustang convertible fully involved. The flames were quickly knocked down, and there were no injuries.
Flanders: Jeep Jumps Guardrail and Slams into Utility Pole
8.6.22 | FLANDERS, NY -- Just after 2:30 AM, Southampton Town Police, NYS Police, and the Flanders Fire Department responded to a single MVA on Flanders Road (NY Rte 24), just north of Pleasure Drive. A white Jeep SUV traveling northbound on Flanders Road, at a high rate of speed, left the roadway, jumped a guardrail, traveled over 100 feet, before taking our several highway signs, and hitting and snapping a utility pole. The driver of the Jeep was transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The cause of the accident is under investigations.

8.6.22 | FLANDERS, NY-- At approximately 2:30 AM, Southampton Town Police and Flanders Fire Department responded to a call of working structure fire at 757 Pleasure Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters found a deck, and the rear of the house fully involved, with some extension to the attic. Mutual aid was provided by the Riverhead and East Quogue Fire Departments. The occupants safely exited the house; there were no injuries. The cause of the blaze is being investigated by the Southampton Town Fire Marshalls.
S'Hampton: Man Fatally Struck by LIRR Train
8.1.22 | by Chris | SOUTHAMPTON, NY - At approximately 7:07 PM, Southampton Town Police received a call from the MTA to the Emergency Dispatch Center in regards to a male pedestrian struck by an eastbound LIRR Train. The victim has been identified as Rafal Stoklosa, age 45, of Southampton. Several patrol units and detectives responded to the scene, along with the Southampton Fire Department. The train stopped west of Hill Station Road at McGregor Drive; the pedestrian was found deceased on the eastbound side of the tracks. MTA Police responded to the location and is conducting the investigation. The victim was removed at 10:37 PM from the scene by the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office.

Upon arrive, firefighters found a small fire beneath a wood deck. The fire was quickly extinguished, and there was no extension to the house. It is unclear how the fire started. Southampton Town Fire Marshalls were on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
S'Hamptons: 2-Car Collision on Montauk Highway
07.24.2022 | SOUTHAMPTON, NY -- Shortly after midnight, Southampton Town Police responded to a call of a two-car MVA on County Road 39 and Shrubland Road, involving a red Chevy Silverado pick-up and a black Cadillac XTS. Both vehicles sustained considerable damage. None of the occupants of either vehicle sustained injuries.
H'Bays: Two-Car Collision with Injuries
At approximately 10:00 PM, Friday, July 15, 2022, Southampton Town Police, Hampton Bays EMS, and Hampton Bays Fire Department responded to a two-car collision at the intersection of East Tiani Road and East Montauk Highway, involving a grey Hyundai Sonata and a silver Ford Mustang. The operator of the Hyundai struck the Mustang, forcing it off the roadway and onto the lawn in front of a TD Bank branch. Two occupants of the Mustang sustained non-life-threatening injuries. One occupant was treated at the scene; the other was transported to an area hospital. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Queens: FDNY, responding to what would become a three-alarm fire, smashed the front windows of this Lexus to pass through a five inch supply line from the hydrant the Lexus was blocking to 285 Engine.
Riverhead: Fatal House Fire
5.14.22 | by Chris | NORTHAMPTON (RIVERHEAD), NY - On Tuesday, June 14, 2022, at approximately 12:44 a.m., Southampton Town Communications Division received a 911 call of a residential fire at a home located at 16 Wildwood Trail, Northampton. Police arrived within minutes and were unable to breach the door as the home was fully engulfed in flames. It took members of the Riverhead Fire Department nearly two hours to fully extinguish the blaze. The residence is a total loss.
A body was discovered within the residence. The Southampton Detective Division assisted by the Southampton Town Fire Marshals and the Suffolk County PD Arson Unit responded to the scene for investigation. The body of the deceased male was removed from the scene and transported to the Suffolk County Medical Examiner's Office for confirmation of identification. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Hampton Bays: 2-Car Collision with Rollover
At approximately 1:50pm, a blue Jeep Cherokee traveling northbound on Ponquogue Avenue collided with a yellow Hummer traveling westbound on Bay Avenue East. The Jeep struck the Hummer in the intersection, after the Hummer ran through a stop sign.
H'Bays: 22-YO Male Jumps into Shinnecock Canal and Drowns
UPDATE: 7.16.22: The body of the missing individual (John Escorcia-Arroyo) who in the early morning hours of 7.14.22, jumped into the Shinnecock Canal, has been located. Bay Constables were alerted to the location of the victim on the south side of the canal. The family of Mr. Escorcia-Arroyo has been advised that he has been located.
7.14.22 | by Chris | HAMPTON BAYS, NY - At 2:11 AM, Southampton Town Police Communications Division was contacted by a female stating her companion was missing after attempting to swim across the Shinnecock Canal. The male, identified as John Escorcia-Arroyo, 22, of Westhampton, left Dream NightClub and jumped into the inlet. The female companion lost sight of him after a few minutes. She attempted to locate him on her own for several minutes and then contacted the police. Southampton Town Patrol Units responded and requested additional resources. Southampton Town Unmanned Aircraft Unit, Southampton Town Detective Division, Southampton Village K9, Southampton Town Bay Constables, Southampton Town Fire Marshalls, United States Coast Guard, Hampton Bays Fire Department, North Sea Fire Department, and Southampton Fire Department all responded to assist with the search.

**EARLY ARRIVAL** Major Blaze Destroys Bridgehampton Home
5.10.22 | by Chis| BRIDGEHAMPTON, NY - At 10:33 PM Bridgehampton FD and Southampton Town PD responded to a call of a residential structure fire, at a luxury house located at 3 Fair Hill Lane (and Brick Hill Road). The house was fully engulfed, and burned to the ground. Embers from the original fire building cast off and set fire to two additional houses and caused minor damage to a third. A total of sixteen volunteer fire departments from across the East End responded to the blazes. The Southampton Town Fire Marshall and Southampton Town detectives are investigating the cause of the blaze. It is unknown if there were any firefighter or civilian injuries.

Southampton: Violent Double MVA on Country Road 39
05.14.22 | Christopher Cyphers | SOUTHAMPTON, LI -- At approximately 9:30pm, Southampton Fire Department's (SHFD) heavy rescue squad was dispatched to a two-car accident at the northwest corner of County Road (CR) 39 and Magee Street. It appears a Mercedes Benz G-class truck collided with a Chrysler Sebring, which as wedged between a large metal utility pole and the Mercedes. SHFD extricated the occupants of the Sebring, one of whom suffered a large laceration to the face and was transported to an area hospital. It is believe the driver of the Mercedes fled the scene on foot. A Southampton Village Police K-9 Unit searched a wooded area along CR 39; the subject was not found. The cause of the accident and the whereabouts of the missing subject remain under investigation.

Southampton: Village Mansion Blaze
4.30.22 | by Chris | SOUTHAMPTON, LI - At 8:35pm, the Southampton Fire Department responded to a working structure fire at 47 South Hill Street. An array of solar panels on the roof of the $10 million luxury home caught fire, which extended to other parts of the roof. The charged panels created a particular challenge for firefighters. Portions of the roof collapsed onto the second floor of the structure. Mutual aid was provided by Hampton Bays, East Quogue, and Sag Harbor Fire Departments. No one was home at the time of the fire.

Drunk Driver Slams Tesla into Utility Pole.
At approximately 11:00pm, April 16, 2022, Southampton Town Police (SHTP) and Hampton Bays Fire Department (HBFD) responded to a call of a single MVA at the intersection of Lynn Avenue and Shinnecock Road, in Hampton Bays. Upon arrival, authorities found a white Tesla sedan that had hit a utility pole and stop sign in front of 46 Shinnecock Road. In the course of its investigation, police determined the driver, Manuel ReyesCortes, 36 years of age, of Queens NY, was intoxicated and subsequently arrested. Neither the drive nor his female passenger sustained any injuries in the crash. The Tesla was impounded.
Hit & Run Driver Flees Scene and Torches Car Causing Brush Fire
04.15.22 | by Chris | Hampton Bays, LI - At approximately 8:00pm, Southampton Town Police responded to a call of a double MVA on Montauk Highway in the center of Hampton Bays. A male subject, driving a silver Subaru sedan, that caused the accident fled the scene. An hour later, Hampton Bays FD was called to a bush fire on Newtown Road, on land belonging to the Shinnecock Indian Nation. Upon arrival, FD discovered the brush fire was caused by a fully involved car fire, located several hundred feet along a dirt path into a wooded area, off Newtown Road. That car was the Subaru involved in the Hit and Run accident. NY State Police converged on the area to search for the driver of the Subaru and to conduct its investigation. The State Police has investigative jurisdiction on native land. The suspect involved in the Hit and Run and subsequent car fire remains at large. The search for the male subject is ongoing.

4.15.22 | by Chris | East Quogue, LI - East Quogue FD was dispatched to a report of a structure fire at 81 Old Country Road. Upon arrival, FD found a fully-involved detached two-car garage. The garage was used by the owner as a woodworking shop. Mutual aid provided by Hampton Bays FD. The structure is a total loss. No civilian or firefighter injuries have been reported. The Southampton Town Fire Marshal will conduct an investigation into the cause of the blaze.
**UPDATE** HAMPTON BAYS MAN ARRESTED FOR STRANGULATION, RESISTING ARREST, AND DISORDERLY CONDUCT
On April 9th, 2022 at approximately 8:36 PM, the Southampton Town Police report the arrest of John Martinolich, age 36 , of Hampton Bays for DISORDRELY CONDUCT, STRANGULATION 2ND DEGREE, AND RESISTING ARREST. Martinolich was involved in a physical fight with another subject in the Hampton Bays Movie theater parking lot, at the intersection of East Montauk Highway and Springville Road, in which he placed a subject in a head lock causing that subject to lose consciousness. Martinolich then fled from police on foot after being told he was under arrest. Devastating Apartment Fire Rekindles in Hampton Bays
Just after midnight, Saturday, April 2, the devastating apartment fire at 317 East Montauk Highway, that began some seven hours earlier, rekindled. Hampton Bays Fire Department responded to the location to find a well involved fire in the northeast corner of the structure. The building had been condemned, and the investigation into the origins of the original fire remains under investigation.
**EARLY ARRIVAL** Fire Destroys Hampton Bays Apartment Building

Upon arrival, command transmitted a working fire of an occupied multiple dwelling--an apartment building that was home to more than 18 lower income residents, mostly from Mexico and Central America. The building is a total loss. The American Red Cross was on scene to assist those who lost their home secure temporary housing. There were no reports of civilian or firefighter injuries. The Southampton Town and Suffolk County Fire Marshals were on scene to begin their investigation into the cause of the fire. Mutual Aid was provided by the Southampton Fire Department. It took firefighters more than an hour to bring the blaze under control, and remained on scene for nearly five hours.
Fire Rips Through House in Southampton Village

LI - At 8:16pm, the Southampton Fire Department responded to a call of a residential structure fire at 83 Lewis St, opposite of Rogers Ave. Upon arrival firefighters found a luxury home (with an estimated value of $3.2 million) with fire blowing out of the second floor windows. Mutual aid was provided by Hampton Bays and North Sea Fire Departments. It took some 60 firefighters and EMS responders an hour to bring the blaze under control. A Village of Southampton Police officer, who was first on scene, was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries. No one was home at the time of the fire.
HBFD Fights Chimney Fire w/Extension
On Monday, March 28, at approximately 6:30pm, Hampton Bays FD (HBFD) responded to a call of a Chimney Fire at 6 Flocee Place. Upon arrival HBFD found an active chimney fire, with minor extension to the exterior wall behind the chimney.
Drunk Driver Slams Pick-Up Into Utility Pole, Hampton Bays
On Saturday, March 20, 2022, at about 12:25A.M., the Southampton Town Police Department
received a report of a motor vehicle accident in the vicinity of Montauk Highway and Pawnee Street,
in Hampton Bays, New York. Patrol units responded and determined that the driver, who struck and
damaged a PSEG Utility Pole, was operating his vehicle in an intoxicated condition. Therefore, Jose
M. Chunchi-Quinde, 37 years of age, of Southampton, New York was arrested and charged with
Aggravated Driving While Intoxicated, a Felony, due to a prior conviction for Driving While Intoxicated
and one additional traffic infraction. Chunchi-Quinde was transported to Southampton Town Police
Headquarters where he was processed and held for morning arraignment. No injuries were reported
in the motor vehicle accident.
Multiple MVA at W Montauk H'Way & Springville Road, Hampton Bays
At approximately 4:45 PM, March 5, 2022, Southampton Town Police, Hampton Bays FD and EMS responded to a call of an MVA at the intersection of West Montauk Highway and Springville Road. Upon arrival, police first responders found four vehicles involved in an accident. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the accident is under investigation.
Hampton Bays: Drunk Driver Slams into Parked Cars and Tree
On Saturday, February 18, 2022, at about 01:25 A.M., the Southampton Town Police received a call of a motor vehicle accident on Ponquogue Ave, Hampton Bays. Upon arrival officers found a pick-up truck that drove off the roadway causing damage to same and other parked vehicles. Upon further
investigation of the driver, it was determined that Michael Glass, 32 years old of Hampton Bays, was operating the motor vehicle in an intoxicated condition. Glass was transported Southampton Hospital for minor injuries. Glass was released and transported to Southampton Town Police Headquarters for processing. Glass was charged with Driving While Intoxicated (Prior conviction), a Felony and Moved from lane unsafely, a violation.
Hampton Bays: Vehicle Crashes Violently into Several Boats at Spellman's Marina
02.10.22 | by Chris| HAMPTON BAYS, LI - At approximately 11:30pm, a Dodge Caravan traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed on East Montauk Highway, at Canoe Place Road, left the roadway, snapped and dragged a utility pole, and plowed into several boats in storage for the winter and boat trailers located at Spellman's Marina. Two victims were extricated from their vehicle by the Hampton Bays FD, and transported to Southampton Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Southampton PD detectives are investigating the cause of the accident, and the crash site is an active crime scene.
Single MVA with Extrication
A black Dodge Charger traveling eastbound on North Road in Hampton Bay failed to negotiate a curve, crashed violently through the front yard of 78 North Road, coming to rest in a nearby wooded area. A female driver was extricated from the vehicle and transported to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Area roads had become slippery after the temperature fell below the freezing mark. It's unknown if the driver of the Dodge will be issued any traffic citations.

Southampton Town Patrol Officers responded to the area and found a fully engulfed residence at 106 Little Neck Road, Southampton. Fire from the original fire building extended to the adjoining primary structure on the property. Southampton Village, Hampton Bays, North Sea, and East Quogue Fire Departments responded to the scene, as did multiple EMS units from Village of Southampton and Hampton Bays . It took firefighters over an hour to bring the blaze under control. No injuries to residents or firefighters were reported, and the Southampton Town Fire Marshall is investigating the cause of the fire.

Physical Altercation at 7-11, Flanders Road, Flanders
At approximately 1:30 AM, Southampton Town Police and NY State Police responded to a 911 call of an altercation inside the 7-11 on Flanders Road. Police arrived in large numbers and were able to defuse the situation without making any arrests.
Fatal Shooting Outside Queens Housing Project

Upon arrival police observed in front of 1016 41 Avenue a 37-year-old male with a gunshot wound to the chest. EMS also responded and transported the victim to New York Presbyterian - Cornell Hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. There are no arrests at this time. The investigation is ongoing.

Upon arrival police found two males shot. Both men were transported to Harlem Hospital, one in critical condition. The shooter left a gun at the scene and fled on foot east.
Hampton Bays: Vehicle into Building w/Injuries

Upon arrival, PD and FD found a blue Toyota Corolla against the exterior of Centro Restaurant. The driver of the Corolla was traveling west on Montauk Highway, when it clipped the left side of a 5-series BMW, which was parked on the shoulder of Montauk Highway; the driver of the Corolla lost control of her vehicle, and hit the southeastern corning of the restaurant. The female driver sustained no life-threatening-injuries and was transported to a local hospital. The party seated at the impact site were treated at the sign for minor injuries.
This is the second such accident at the same location in one week.
Jeep Hits Parked Car and Rolls Over. Driver Arrested.
10.03.21 | Hampton Bays, LI -- At approximately 8:00pm, Southampton Town Police, Hampton Bays FD, and Hampton Bays EMS, responded to a 911 call of a vehicle roll-over at 346 West Montauk Highway. Upon arrival, authorities found a late-model Jeep on its side, and a 2007 Mercedes Benz sedan with damage to the left rear of the vehicle. The driver of the Jeep was traveling westbound on Montauk Highway when he clipped the Mercedes, which was parked on the shoulder in front of Centro restaurant, and rolled his vehicle. It was determined during the course of the accident investigation that the driver of the Jeep was intoxicated; he was taken into police custody.
Hampton Bays, LI: Residential Structure Fire w/Burn Injuries
9.30.21 | by Christopher Cyphers| Hampton Bays, LI - At 2:14pm, Hampton Bays FD and Southampton Town PD responded to a 911 call of heavy smoke emanating from a single family dwelling at 17 Bittersweet Ave. Upon arrival, FD found a working fire with the homeowners attempting to extinguish the fire with a garden house. The male homeowner suffered severe burns and was airlifted by Suffolk County PD aviation unit to Stony Brook University Medical Center, while the female homeowner was transported to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital with chest pains. Six mature marijuana plants were removed by the homeowners from the residence. Suffolk County Fire Marshals were on scene to investigate the cause of the fire.
**UPDATE** Wrong-Way Driver Creates Triple MVA on Sunrise Highway East
08.22.2021 | by Christopher Cyphers | HAMPTON BAYS, LI -- At approximately 3:30am, Hampton Bays FD and EMS, Southampton Town PD, and NYSP responded to a call of a multiple motor vehicle accident near Exit 65N on Sunrise Highway East. A white Honda sedan traveling westbound in the eastbound lanes of Sunrise Highway struck head-one a black minivan, just east of Exit 65N. A Jeep traveling eastbound then struck the white Honda, which had come to rest in the middle of the highway with its headlights disabled. The crash between the Honda and the Jeep caused the Jeep to catch fire. The drivers of the minivan and the Honda were transported to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Hampton Bays:Highly Intoxicated Driver Puts Car in Ditch
8.9.21 | by Christopher Cyphers | Hampton Bays - At approximately 10:15pm, Southampton Town PD (SHPD) and Hampton Bays FD and EMS responded to a 911 call of a vehicle that drove off the road, at 159 East Montauk Highway, and into a ditch. Upon arrival, first responders found a male subject with minor injuries and highly intoxicated and combative. SHPD officers attempted to place the driver under arrest, when he struggled with officers, who ultimately placed the subject on the ground and placed him in handcuffs. An awaiting Hampton Bays ambulance transported the subject to Southampton Hospital. His condition is not known.
The late model Mercedes sedan was traveling eastbound on East Montauk Highway, where the driver failed to negotiate a sweeping turn, drove onto the start of a guardrail, slid along the guardrail and into a utility pole, which snapped in two, before coming to rest at the bottom of a ditch at East Montauk Highway, just East of Pawnee Street. The driver self-extricated through the sunroof.
Several days earlier, another vehicle hit and snapped the very same pole.
Hampton Bays: Police Standoff with Barricaded Subject
8.8.21 | by Christopherr Cyphers| Hampton Bays, LI - At approximately 4:30pm, Southampton Town PD and NYSP responded to reports of a shirtless male running around and screaming in the area of Springville and East Tiana Roads. The male subject appeared to be in a drug-induced psychotic state. Police converged on the subject's home, in a guest house in the rear of 118 Springville Road. A tense standoff between police and the subject ended when the subject was tasered by an officer for Southampton Town PD, and then restrained. Hampton Bays Volunteer Ambulance Corps and EMS transported the subject, outfitted with a spit hood, to a local hospital. The condition of the male subject is unknown and the incident is under investigation.
Hampton Bays: Single MVA Rollover; Driver Flees
At approximately 4:30am, Southampton Town PD, NY State Police, and Hampton Bays Fire and EMS responded to a report of a vehicle in the woods and on its roof just south of the exit to Sunrise Highway West. Upon arrival, it became apparent the driver of the blue BMW sedan had fled the scene of the accident. It would appear the BMW was traveling southbound on Flanders Road in Hampton Bays, when the driver failed to enter the exit ramp, lost control of the vehicle, where it flipped and came to rest in a wooded area surrounding the exit ramp. It is unknown if the driver sustained any injuries, or if the driver was cited by police.
Five Dead in Violent Quogue Crash
On the evening of Saturday, July 24, at 11:20pm, a red Nissan Maxima operated by Justin Mendez (22) was traveling eastbound on Montauk Highway, in the Village of Quogue, when he left his lane of travel and collided head-on with a grey Toyota Prius, operated by Uber driver Farhan Zahid (32). Both drivers died at the scene. Three of Zahid's passengers also died, at the scene, including brothers Michael Ferrell (20) and James Ferrell (25), and Ryan Kiess (25). A woman traveling in the Uber survived the crash and is at Peconic Bay Hospital in critical condition. Excessive speed has been attributed to the crash. Police continue to investigate the cause of the accident.
Smith-Point: TWA800 Crash 25th Anniversary
7.17.21| by Christopher Cyphers | Shirley, NY - Over 200 family members of passengers and crew who died on July 17, 1996, aboard TWA Flight 800, which crashed 12 minutes into its flight from JFK to Paris, gathered at the TWA Flight 800 Memorial, at Smith-Point beach. The plane exploded off the coast of Smith-Point, at the start of the Fire Island National Seashore. Several speakers representing the Suffolk County legislature, the then chief of Suffolk County Emergency Management, the lead NTSB investigator into the crash offered brief remarks, after which the names of the victims were read aloud. White carnations were distributed to family members, who walked to the beach, just a few hundred feet from the memorial, and tossed the flowers into the ocean.
Hampton Bays: Single MVA Leaves Passenger in Critical Condition and Driver Arrested for DWI
On Sunday July 18, 2021 at about 11:46 P.M., the Southampton Town Police received a report of a motor vehicle with two occupants that collided with a tree on Red Creek Road/ Bergen Ave. in Hampton Bays. Patrol Officers and members of the Community Response Unit arrived on scene. During the
investigation it was learned that the operator of the vehicle, Marie G. Blanchard, age 36 of New York was intoxicated. The adult male passenger in the vehicle sustained serious injuries due to the crash and was transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center. Blanchard was arrested for Driving While Intoxicated and was processed at Southampton Town Police Headquarters. Southampton Town Police Detectives responded to continue the investigation.

The female driver was traveling eastbound on Dune Road when she struck and snapped a utility pole, careened into a sand dune, and was ejected from her vehicle. The victim was airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital in serious condition. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Southampton: Vehicle Owner Drives Car onto LIRR Tracks
7.3.21 | Christopher Cyphers | Southampton -- At approximately 1:00am, Southampton Town PD, Southampton Village PD, and MTA PD, responded to a 911 call of a vehicle stuck on the LIRR tracks at Moses Lane. The driver of the VW Jetta apparently turned mistakenly onto the tracks at the grade crossing. The vehicle became stuck on the tracks and had to be removed with a wrecker. A Westbound train had just left Southampton Station at the time the Jetta turned onto and became stuck on the tracks. There were no injuries and no citations issued. MTA police is handling the investigation
Manorville, LI: Fatal Pedestrian Struck on County Rte. 111
7.1.21 | by Christopher Cyphers | Manorville, LI - According to police officials, Thomas Wisniewski (77) was driving a 2016 Mazda northbound on Route 111, just north of Chapman Boulevard, when his vehicle struck a man who was crossing the road at 8:53 p.m. The victim was pronounced DOA. Mr. Wisniewski and his female passenger were transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead for treatment. The identity of the victim is unknown, and the cause of the accident remains under investigation. Access to Exit 70, at Rte. 111, on the LIE Eastbound was closed for several hours.
Hampton Bays: Fatal Residential Structure Fire Reignites
06.30.21 | by Christopher Cyphers | Hampton Bays, LI - After an early morning fire at 15 Mildred Place that claimed the life of the only occupant of the house, whom Southampton PD has identified as Mr. Frank Holecek (71). Mr. Holeck was removed from the second floor of the residence by members of the Hampton Bays FD and transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries. The fire reignited later in the day at approximately 4:30pm, while the Suffolk County PD Arson Squad was conducting its investigation. Hampton Bays FD arrived to fire in the ceiling and a heavy smoke condition. The reignited fire was quickly knocked down. The cause of the original fire remains under investigation.
Hampton Bays: Jumper off Ponquogue Bridge
5.26.21 | by Christopher Cyphers | HAMPTON BAYS, LI - At approximately 8:45pm, Southampton Town PD responded to a 911 call from an individual who claims to have witnessed a male subject jump from the mid-span of the Ponquogue Bridge, which connects the mainland to the Atlantic Ocean, into the Shinnecock Bay. Hampton Bays FD and EMS also responded, along with the US Coast Guard from Station Shinnecock. An aviation unit from Suffolk County PD provided aerial reconnaissance. The focus of the search was concentrated on Shinnecock Bay, west of the bridge. The strength of the current, nightfall, and poor underwater visibility prevented the use of divers. After an hour, authorities called off the search until daylight. The identity of the alleged jumper is unknown. This case remains under active investigation.
**DELAYED** Double MVA on Montauk Highway, Hampton Bays
Hampton Bays, LI: Double MVA with Injuries
6.14.21 | by Christopher Cyphers| Hampton Bays - At approximately 4:00pm, Hampton Bays FD and EMS and Southampton Town PD responded to a 911 call of a double MVA on West Montauk Highway at Flanders Road (Rte. 24). A red Mazda hatchback traveling westbound on Montauk Highway appears to have struck a black Honda sedan as it was exiting a gas station; the Mazda then traveled about 150 feet, jumped curbing, and came to rest on a grassy median. The male driver of the Mazda was treated at the scene by Hampton Bays EMS, and transported to an area hospital in stable condition. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Flanders, LI: Single MVA Brings Down Power Lines
6.13.21 | by Christopher Cyphers | Flanders, LI - Just before 1:00am, Southampton Town Police and Flanders FD responded to a 911 call of a single vehicle that struck a utility pole, while traveling southbound on Flanders Road (NY Rte 24). Upon arrival, PD and FD found a crossover SUV off the road and into a wooded area, and a power pole leaning severely, and live powerlines strewn across Flanders Road. The driver apparently fell asleep at the wheel. He sustained non-life threatening injuries and was treated at the scene by Flanders EMS. No charges were filed against the driver. PSEG-LI crews arrived on scene to cut power to the lines, which crews then restrung between two poles. Flanders Road was closed for two hours.

Riverhead FD was dispatched to the scene to extricate the driver, who was intoxicated and airlifted to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition. The single occupant suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital in stable condition. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
East Quogue: Police Pursuit, Crash, Driver Bails, but is Apprehended
06.06.21 | by Christopher Cyphers | EAST QUOGUE, LI - At approximately 12:30am, Southampton Town Police (SHPD) responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle accident in the area of North Sea Road, where one of the parties left the scene of the accident. A silver Honda Accord struck a black Escalade. The Honda traveled westbound on the Sunrise Highway (NY Rte 27), as the Escalade followed. SHPD units identified the Honda traveling at times above 90 mph and gave chase. The driver of the Honda lost control of his vehicle, left the highway, took out the sign marking Exit 64N, crossed the shoulder and the offramp to Exit 64N (East Quogue), and came to rest in a grassy area to the right of the offramp. The driver bailed out of the vehicle and ran into a large wooded area. SHPD, joined by NYS Police and a K-9 unit from the Village of Southampton, established a perimeter, searched the wooded area, and eventually apprehended the male subject; he was transported to SHPD headquarters in Hampton Bays. There were no injuries, and the matter remains under investigation.
06.02.21 | by Christopher Cyphers| Southampton Village - Just before 7:00pm, the Village of Southampton FD (SFD) responded to a report of fire in a private dwelling at 96 North Main Street. Mutual aid was provided by the villages of Hampton Bays, North Sea, and Bridgehampton. The fire was largely contained to the basement, with slight extension to the first floor. There was extensive smoke damage to the first and second floors of the dwelling. There were no injuries. The Town of Southampton fire marshall was called to the scene, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation. The chief of SFD, Mr. Alfred Callahan, remarked that with the start of the summer season in the Hamptons, the departments of the villages that make up the Town of Southampton anticipate a busy summer. Since the start of the pandemic, those with houses in the Hamptons fled NYC for the East End of Long Island, thus creating a higher than usual volume of requests for fire services.

05.01.21 | by Christopher Cyphers | HAMPTON BAYS, NY - Shortly after 12:00am, Hampton Bays FD and EMS, Southampton Town PD, NY State Police responded to a 911 call of a single MVA rollover, at the intersection of West Montauk Highway and Bellows Pond Road. Upon arrival, first responders found a black Chevy Suburban on its roof with an injured occupant inside the vehicle, who was removed from the vehicle and transported in serious condition to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital. A second occupant was taken into police custody, while a possible third occupant may have fled the scene; a K-9 unit from the Village of Southampton PD conducted a search of the surrounding area. It is believed the Suburban was traveling westbound on Montauk Highway at a high rate of speed, failed to negotiate a sharp curve, flipped onto its roof and slid several hundred feet, coming to rest at the northwest corner of Montauk Highway and Bellows Pond Road. The exact cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Fatal Crash on Sunrise Highway, Westhampton
WESTHAMPTON, NY - According to NY State Police, at approximately 1:42 pm, State Police were called to a two vehicle crash on Sunrise Highway eastbound near exit 63 in the town of Westhampton Beach. A preliminary investigation revealed one vehicle rear ended another vehicle. One driver in the crash was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries, the other driver died at the scene. There were no passengers in either vehicle. Shortly after the fatal crash, another crash occurred involving a tractor trailer and three other vehicles. A preliminary investigation into that crash revealed that as a tractor trailer slowed for the previous accident, it was rear-ended by three other vehicles. Two people involved in that crash suffered non-life threatening injuries and were also transported to Peconic Bay Medical Center. The investigation into both crashes is ongoing.

**AERIAL FOOTAGE** Hampton Bays FD Fights Truck Fire at Transfer Station
At approximately 4pm, Hampton Bays FD responded to a call of a fully involved truck fire at the Hampton Bays transfer station on Jackson Road. Upon arrival, FD found a backhoe on a flatbed trailer fully involved. The backhoe was being used to move brush into an industrial wood chipper. Later that evening, FD was called back to the scene for a report of smoke rising from a large pile of wood chips. No fire was found, but FD wet down the pile.
Hampton Bays--Woman Falls from 2nd Floor Window and Sustains Serious Injuries
HAMPTON BAYS, NY -- At 9:03p, Southampton Town PD responded to a report of a woman who fell out a second floor window at a residence at 132 West Montauk Highway, according to police sources. Hampton Bays FD was dispatched to the scene to extricate the victim from a bush below where she fall. Hampton Bays EMS and Volunteer Ambulance Corps transported the victim to the Hampton Bays Middle Schools where a Suffolk County Police Aviation Unit was waiting to medivac the patient to Stony Brook Hospital. The exact circumstances that led to the fall and the extent of the victim's injuries remains unknown.
Hampton Bays: Violent Head-On Collision Caused by Drunk Driver
12.15.21 | by Christopher Cyphers | HAMPTON BAYS, NY -- At approximately 3:49 PM Southampton Town Emergency Dispatch received a call for a two vehicle crash on Lynn Avenue at Woodbridge Road. Responding officers found the head on crash with a Honda Civic with two occupants and a Honda CRV with one occupant. Hampton Bays Fire Department, Hampton Bays Ambulance and East Quogue Ambulance both responded. Heavy rescue was requested to assist with the removal of the victims. The two occupants of the 2004 Honda Civic Julio D. Zajap-Sinai, 24 and his passenger Juana Flores-Urbano, 37, both of Hampton Bays were transported by Suffolk County Aviation to Stony Brook Hospital. The driver of the 2006 Honda CRV, Leslie Carr, 45, of Southampton was transported to an area hospital for treatment. Zajap-Sinai is being charged with Driving While Intoxicated after it was determined that he crossed into the path of the Honda CRV causing the head on accident. Southampton Town Police Detectives responded and are continuing the investigation in to the crash.

02/24/2021 | SOUTHAMPTON, NY -- Just after 1:00am, Southampton Town Police responded to a report of a vehicle into a tree off the westbound lanes of Rt 27. The driver of the red Dodge minivan was traveling East on Rt. 27, when, for unknown reasons, he crossed two lanes of Rt 27 East and two lanes of Rt27 West, where he left the road and crashed violently into several trees. The driver apparently did not suffer any injuries, but it is possible the driver was impaired at the time of the accident.

Hampton Bays, LI: Nighttime Search for Drowned Kayaker
01.02.2021 | by Christopher Cyphers | Hampton Bays, LI - At approximately 6:30pm, Hampton Bays FD, Southampton PD, Riverhead PD, Suffolk County Park Rangers, NY State PD, US Coast Guard began an extensive search in the area of Meschutt Beach, from near the inlet to the Great Peconic Bay to the Shinnecock Canal, for a missing kayaker. A cell phone and clothing in a watertight bag belonging to the male subject washed up on a jetty at the entrance to the Great Peconic Bay. After approximately 2 1/2 hours, searchers found a blue and white kayak near a slip at the Shinnecock Marina, roughly 200 feet South of the Peconic Bay inlet; the subject was found near the location of the kayak. The subject was declared deceased by the medical examiner. It is unknown if the kayaker was wearing a drysuit. Water temps are in the 40s. The Riverhead PD is the lead agency investigating this drowning.

Hampton Bays EMS responded to the scene, and transported the victim by ambulance to a landing zone located on the grounds of the US Coast Guard Station at Hampton Bays. An aviation unit from the Suffolk County PD air lifted the victim to Stony Brook Hospital in unknown condition.
6 Alarm Fire Rips Through East Village Block
12.04.20 | Christopher Cyphers -- MANHATTAN, NY. At 2:30am, FDNY responded to a 911 call of a fire on the first floor of a vacant 5 story building, at the corner of E 7 ST and 2nd AVE. First arriving units found the building near fully involved and immediately rang a second alarm. Fire quickly spread to two adjacent buildings of similar type on E 7 ST, and a church adjacent to the original fire building on 2nd AVE. Within 30 minutes, the blaze went to five alarms, and, then at approximately 6:00am, command requested a sixth alarm. The roof the the church collapsed, as did those of the three burned out buildings on E 7 ST. The fire is being treated as suspicious.

11.19.20 | HAMPTON BAYS, LI -- At approximately 11:30pm, the Hampton Bays FD responded to a call of a dumpster fire at a residential construction site located at 11A Lighthouse Road; the fire was first identified by an office from the Town of Southampton PD. Firefighters extinguished the blaze quickly, while also checking for extension into a house under construction located just feet from the fully-involved 30 cubic-yard construction dumpster. Firefighters had to use a carbide saw to gain access to the fire. The construction site is being developed by Iconic Sunrise Properties, of Madison, WI. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Mastic, LI: Teen Swept Off Jetty into Atlantic; Remains Missing
11.07.20 | by Christopher Cyphers | Mastic, LI - Just before 4pm, Friday, November 6, 2020, a 16 year-old male fishing from a jetty at the entrance to Moriches Inlet was swept off the rocks into the water. A good samaritan attempted to rescue the teen, but was unsuccessful. Suffolk County Fire and Rescue, Suffolk County PD, Cupsogue FD, Mastic PD responded to a 911 call of a man in the water at the Moriches Inlet. Mastic PD contacted the US Coast Guard (USCG) Long Island and Atlantic Area Station at New Haven, CT. Helicopters from USCG stations at Cape Cod (MA) and Atlantic City (NJ) responded to conduct aerial searches of an area of the Atlantic Ocean south of the inlet. A Suffolk County PD Aviation Unit was also dispatched to the area to assist in the search, which continued overnight into Saturday, November 7. Early Saturday morning, a dive team from the Suffolk County PD conducted a search of the inlet and surrounding waters. After nearly 24 hours of this multi-agency operation, the USCG called off the search at 2:30pm. Family members of the victim were, throughout the search, assembled in Cupsogue County Park, on the West Hampton Dunes side of the inlet.
Driver and Passenger Ejected from Violent Single MVA, Water Mill
10.31.20 | by Chrstopher Cyphers| WATER MILL, LI - At approximately 1:30 AM, Southampton FD and PD responded to a 911 call for a car accident, on Deerfield Road. Upon arrival, first responders found a single vehicle that had driven off Deerfield Road, up a hill, flipped on its roof, and buried in the woods. Skid marks on the pavement can be seen up to the point where the vehicle left the roadway. The driver and passenger were ejected from the vehicle, provided life-saving treatment at the scene, and transported to Southampton Hospital in critical condition, both having suffered traumatic injuries. Suffolk County PD aviation units transported at least one of the victims to Stoney Brook University Hospital. The outdoor temperature at the time of the accident was hovering just above the freezing mark. The cause of the accident is under investigation.

The condition of the occupants of the two other vehicles is not known, and the cause of the accident remains under investigation.

The single occupant of a Toyota SUV exited the vehicle through the windshield without injury. The driver of the accident vehicle performed a field sobriety test, and was subsequently taken into custody by Southampton Town Police.
Two Victims of Triple MVA Airlifted to Stony Brook, Riverhead, LI
At 9:30pm, police, fire and EMS from multiple agencies responded to a report of an MVA on Suffolk County Route 105, in the Town of Riverhead, LI. Three vehicles were involved in a violent head-on collision. One vehicle erupted into flames, all the occupants of which were able to exit the vehicle. A total of three occupants from the other two vehicles were reportedly entrapped. Two victims were airlifted, in critical condition, by Suffolk County PD to Stony Brook Medical Center. The airlift landing zone was the parking lot of the David W. Crohan Community Center, in Riverhead. Authorities kept Rte 105 closed until 3:00am, Saturday. The current condition of the victims is unknown, and the cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Two hours earlier, two Suffolk County PD aviation units airlifted two victims from a violent double MVA on Dune Road, in neighboring Hampton Bays.
Both accidents occurred on the first evening of the Labor Day weekend.
Violent Head-On Collision, with Car Fire and Extrication, Dune Road, Hampton Bays, LI
09.04.20 | by Christopher Cyphers | HAMPTON BAYS, LI - Shortly after 7:00pm, Hampton Bays Fire Department and Town of Southampton Police responded to multiple 911 calls for a car fire on Dune Road and Road L. Upon arrival, it became obvious the car fire resulted from a head-on collision that caused one vehicle, a Mercedes Benz operated by a 20 YO male, to erupt in flames. Witnesses report this vehicle was driving upwards of 90 mph when it struck the second vehicle, a white Mercedes sedan operated by an 81 YO woman, spun off the road and into a ditch. The occupant of the car fire escaped, but suffered severe injuries. The driver of the white Mercedes was extricated by HBFD, and suffered significant bodily injuries. Both operators were airlifted in critical condition from the Ponquogue Beach Pavilion by two Suffolk County PD aviation units, and transported to Stony Brook University Hospital--a level 1 trauma center. Each vehicle was carrying a passenger, and those passengers sustained non-life-threatening injuries and were transported to Southampton Hospital. Mutual Aid provided by the village of East Quogue. The cause of the accident remains under investigation.
Large Tree Falls on Car Traveling on Sunrise Highway

Fire and rescue teams from multiple Suffolk County agencies and the NY State Police responded to the accident. Fortunately, the tanker did not rupture. It took HBFD 20-25 minutes to extinguish the fire. The playground facilities had been closed as part of the Town of Southampton's COVID-19 social distancing requirements. A 16 year-old girl has been arrested and charged for setting the blaze. Town officials estimate the damage to the playground equipment to be approximately $200,000.

Just before 9:00 PM, Friday, February 21, 2020, Holtsville FD responded to a 911 call for a vehicle fire on the Eastbound LIE service road. Upon arrival, the late model Mercedes sedan was completely engulfed in flames.
Manhattan Hi-Rise Apartment Fire Leaves 76 Year Old Man Dead and Two others Injured.
On Friday, February 14, 2020 at approximately 2105 hours, police responded to a 911 call of a residential fire inside 351 East 84 Street, apartment #25B, within the confines of the 19 Precinct. Upon arrival, and extinguishment of the fire by on-scene FDNY personnel, a 76-year-old male was found inside the bedroom of the location, with severe burns about his body. EMS responded and pronounced the aided male deceased at the scene. The Fire Marshal will determine the cause of the fire and the investigation remains ongoing.
The identity of the deceased is pending proper family notification.

Serious Single MVA: Driver Flees the Scene, Passenger Extricated and in Critical Condition
01.04.2020 | by Christopher Cyphers | Amityville, LI - At 11:30 PM, a silver Infinity sedan traveling eastbound at a high rate of speed along NY Rt. 101 (Broadway), struck and split a utility pole, and came to rest on its side, narrowly avoiding a commercial building. One of the two occupants of the vehicle fled the scene on foot, while the other was extricated from the vehicle by Amityville firefighters. The extricated victim was transported in critical condition to a local hospital. Suffolk County Police and Amityville Police have identified the area of the crash as a crime scene.
Fire Rips Through Hearst Hamptons Estate
12.28.19 | by Christopher Cyphers | WATER MILL, Long Island - A sprawling Hamptons estate owned by member Ms. Anne Hearst (of the Hearst publishing dynasty) and renowned novelist, Jay Mcinerney, was ravaged by a fire that began at 8:30 AM. The blaze tore through nearly half of the 17,00 square foot mansion, located at 156 Little Noyak Path, in the village of Water Mill, in the Town of Southampton. According to Southampton tax records, the estate is valued at $9 million. The Bridgehampton Fire Department was first on scene, but the fire quickly grew, requiring mutual aid companies from across the south shore of eastern Suffolk County. Because there are no fire hydrants servicing this part of Water Mill, firefighters relied on water trucked in by fire department tankers, which converged on the area from the towns of Flanders, Hampton Bays, Southampton, Bridghehampton, East Hampton, Amagansett, North Sea, and Sag Harbor.
This is the second Hamptons estate in the village of Water Mill to be heavily damaged by fire in as many weeks.

Just before 8:00 PM, Sunday, December 15, 2019, Mastic Fire Department responded to a 911 call of fire. Upon arrival, FD found two storage buildings fully involved. Firefighters had to crawl through chain link fencing at the end of Park Ave, to access the blaze, which was located in an open lot adjacent to NY Rt. 27. The fire was extinguished quickly. Just after 7:00 PM, Saturday, November 29, 2019, firefighters from the Bridgehampton Fire Department responded to a working commercial fire at a nursery at 120 Snake Hallow Road, in the village of Bridgehampton, on Long Island's East End. Mutual Aid provided by the villages of Southampton and Sag Harbor. The fire was contained to a concrete outbuilding. Firefighting efforts were hampered by a dead hydrant. It took firefighters two hours to extinguish the blaze.

FDNY responded at 9 PM, Friday evening, November 8, 2019, to a warehouse fire in the Hunts Point section of the Bronx. The fire quickly went to three alarms. It took firefighters about 90 minutes to bring the large, outdoor blaze under control. The facility warehouses wooden pallets. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The impact caused the engine, transmission, and exhaust system to separate from the rest of the white Nissan Versa. The driver was transported in unknown condition to a local hospital. BETHPAGE, New York – At 9:38 PM, Thursday night, August 1, 2019, a working fire was transmitted for a private dwelling at 15 Maple Avenue, in the bedroom community of Bethpage, in Nassau County, Long Island. A fire that began in an attached garage quickly extended to the rest of the dwelling. A call for mutual aid was transmitted, with nearly 100 firefighters from neighboring towns arriving on scene. The garage and house sustained major fire and water damage. The Fire Marshall was called to the scene. There were no injuries, and the cause of the fire is under investigation.

SPEONK, New York – Just after 2:00 PM on a brilliant sunny Saturday of Memorial Day Weekend, an Eastbound Long Island Railroad (LIRR) train from New York’s Penn Station, jumped the tracks in the town of Speonk, on the LIRR Montauk branch. The Eastbound train was headed for the beach towns of the Hamptons, terminating in Montauk. No injuries were reported, and the cause of the derailment is under investigation. RIVERDALE, Bronx -- FDNY responded to a structure fire in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx, which quickly went to two alarms. The early morning blaze extended to an adjoining house. It took firefighters over an hour to bring the fire under control. There were no injuries.
Off-duty NYPD officer collides into back of box truck on Bruckner Expressway, Bronx, NY
HUNTS POINT, Bronx -- Just after midnight, on a torrentially rainy early Friday morning, December 20, 2018, NYPD and EMS responded to a rear-end collision between a Mini Cooper and a tractor trailer, involving an off-duty NYPD officer. The driver of the Mini had to extricated from the vehicle, which was wedged beneath the driver’s side rear of the truck. The off-duty officer sustained unknown injuries, but was transported to a local hospital by NYPD escort. The driver of the tractor trailer did not suffer any injuries and, at the time of this reporting, was not cited for any motor vehicle violations.

UPPER EASTSIDE, Manhattan – At about 8:30 PM, Sunday evening, December 9, 2018, fire broke out on the upper floors of 854 Fifth Avenue, between East 66 and 67 Sts., which is home to the Serbian Permanent Mission to the United Nations, and quickly went to two alarms. It took firefighters about 30 minutes to bring the blaze under control, which was contained largely to the Mission's residential quarters on the third floor. 854 Fifth Avenue, a Landmarked building, sits opposite Central Park on the world-famous Museum Mile, and is currently listed for sale at $50 million. Two civilian and one firefighter injuries were reported.
Fatal MVA on Eastbound Long Island Expressway, Exit 29
FLUSHING, Queens – Just before 1 AM, a late-model white Ford Fusion traveling at a high rate on speed eastbound on the Long Island Expressway (LIE) struck a city-owned vehicle used by the NYC Department of Transportation, which flipped multiple times, coming to rest on its roof at the start of the Exit 29 ramp. The speeding Ford Fusion lost control and careened the entire length of the exit ramp, breaking apart until it came to rest in the middle of the Horace Harding Parkway at 219 Street in the Flushing neighborhood of Queens. The driver, who was traveling alone, succumbed en route the hospital to his injuries. NYPD is treating the incident as a crime, and CIS was on scene to conduct its investigation. The driver of the other vehicle was transported to an area hospital, apparently in stable condition.
FDNY Battles Stubborn 4-Alarm Blaze in Midtown Restairamt
MIDTOWN, Manhattan -- What ultimately became a four alarm commercial fire began around 4 PM, Tuesday, July 10, 2018, as a small fire in the ductwork of a restaurant and extended into an adjoining retail space. The fire extended through the walls to upper floors, where close to 100 firefighters fought to bring the blaze under control. The combination of intense smoke and the summer heat caused some firefighters to succumb to heat exhaustion and smoke inhalation. At least two firefighters were transported to local hospitals for treatment. The fire caused the evacuation of adjoining buildings on a largely commercial block. FDNY ladder and engine companies also fought the fire from West 40 Street, just opposite Bryant Park, which was teeming with tourists and commuters. Separate calls of smoke were made from a Chipolte restaurant on West 40 Street, the building of which abuts the fire building.
Fatal 2-Alarm Fire in Pelham Manor Co-Op Apartment Building
PELHAM MANOR, New York – Fire broke out just before midnight, Friday, November 3, 2018, in a large, fourth-floor apartment of the Chuyler Park Manor cooperative, a five-story post-war, Tudor-style apartment complex located in the bedroom community of Pelham Manor, just a few miles north of New York City. The blaze quickly went to two alarms, which added manpower support from the neighboring communities of Eastchester and New Rochelle. One victim was transported in critical condition to a local hospital. Paramedics performed CPR on the victim, who sustained unknown injuries. Close to 100 residents, mostly families with children, were forced to evacuate the building into a warm, but rainy, early November night. Residents who would eventually be allowed to return to their apartments nevertheless had to wait in the building’s parking lot for upwards to two hours. The cause of the fire is under investigation

WASHINGTON HEIGHTS, Manhattan - An early morning fire broke out on Saturday in an electrical closet on the seventh and eighth floors of a residential high-rise at 260 Audubon Ave.
The fire, which started just after 1:00 AM, Saturday, May 19, 2018, took firefighters close to an hour to bring under control, though secondary searches throughout the entire building lasted several additional hours.
The fire forced the evacuation of dozens of residents of the 25 story building. One resident was treated at the scene for minor injuries.
Officials have indicated the fire may be suspicious.

SOUTHAMPTON, New York – At approximately 3:00 PM, Sunday, May 27, 2018, the Southampton Fire Department responded to a call of fire at 225 Captain’s Neck Road, in the estate section of Southampton Village.
The fire in the multi-million dollar Hampton’s estate started in the basement and quickly spread to the first and second floors. Firefighters contained the fire to the east wing of the house.
Assisting the Southampton Fire Department were departments from Hampton Bays and North Sea, NY.
There were no injuries, but the main portion of the residence was deemed uninhabitable.
FDNY Battles Apartment Fire in NYCHA Building, Manhattan
EAST HARLEM, Manhattan – Fire broke out in a fourth-floor apartment around 9:00 PM on Monday, August 6, at the Johnson Houses at 1380 Lexington Avenue, between W112 and W115 Streets. The apartments above and below the fire apartment suffered considerable smoke and water damage. According to FDNY officials, four building residents suffered injuries: three were minor and treated on-scene, and one victim was transported to an area hospital in serious but stable condition. The residents of all three apartments are homeless tonight, an evening marked by high temperatures and extreme humidity. Onlookers grounded as FDNY members three the contents of the fourth-floor apartment to the ground below. The American Red Cross was on scene to provide emergency shelter are care for those displaced by the fire.

MANHATTAN, NY On the evening of Saturday, March 23, 2018, just before 9:00 PM, FDNY responded to fire in the first-floor apartment of 348 East 81 Street, between First and Second Avenues.
The cluttered apartment initially hampered firefighting efforts. The fire apartment sustained substantial smoke and water damage, and several residents were displaced as a result.
The American Red Cross was on scene to provide assistance to those displaced. There were no injuries.

HARLEM, Manhattan – At approximately 9:15 PM, Friday, May 25, FDNY responded to a report of a car fire on Amsterdam Avenue at West 153 Street.
A two-car accident involving a GMC SUV and a livery cab occurred at the intersection of Amsterdam Avenue and West 153 Street, Harlem. Smoke emitted from the SUV, but with no visible evidence of fire, while the side-curtain airbags of the Toyota livery cab deployed.
The passenger of the cab was removed by firefighters and EMS personnel from the vehicle and was transported to a local hospital. Neither the driver nor the passengers of the SUV suffered any injuries.
The cause of the accident remains under investigation.

Four-Alarm Blaze Rips Through Harlem Building

HARLEM, Manhattan Just before 1:00 AM, Saturday, March 24, FDNY responded to a fire that began in a deli on the ground floor of 2000 Second Avenue, at East 103 Street.
The fire quickly tore through the four story building, which housed the deli, apartments, a church, and a cellphone store.
As the fire extended through the walls to the roof, the incident quickly went to four alarms. This just one day after a 5-alarm fire claimed the life of a firefighter in a blaze on Harlem’s Saint Nicholas Avenue.
Several firefighters sustained minor injuries. All residents of the building managed to escape without injury, though their homes are no longer inhabitable.
Residents were not allowed back in their homes the following day because it was feared that the blaze compromised the integrity of the building.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.

NESCONSET, New York – Beginning around 9:30 PM, a line of powerful thunderstorms moved eastward along Suffolk County, Long Island. The storm felled scores of trees across central and western Suffolk County, which brought down power lines, many of them arching, and blocked roadways and fell on the tracks of the Long Island Railroad. Police and Fire departments scrambled from location to location to free tangled power lines and open blocked streets. PSEG-LI reported, at the height of the storm, some 60,000 customers without power.

04.21.23 | Chris | EAST QUOGUE, NY -- In a case of "truth stranger than fiction," a man traveling North on Lewis Road rolled his white Dodge utility van, while swerving to avoid another vehicle that had made a U-turn in front of him. With the assistance of the East Quogue FD, the driver of the van self-extricated through the vehicle's rear door. After the van was righted, its owner turned it on and drove it home.
